At the end of July we entered into a partnership with the Good Things Guy to spread good advice stories through South Africa.

#GoodThingsGoodAdvice was a campaign that encouraged South Africans to share their good advice; it could be any good advice that you had given, received or heard. The drive behind the campaign was to share good advice to make the world a better place!

The conversations were shared on the Good Things Guy and OUTvestInvest Twitter and Facebook pages. More than 2 000 people joined the conversation and shared their good advice on #GoodThingsGoodAvice. It has been inspiring to see so many South Africans getting involved.

At the end of August the Good Things Guy team released a few favourite pieces from the campaign. These aren’t necessarily the winners, but they carry powerful messages. Read the full blog here.

We thoroughly enjoyed running this campaign. Thank you to everyone who shared their pieces of good advice.

Don’t forget to follow and engage with us on Twitter and Facebook. And while you’re there, have a look at the Good Things Guy websiteTwitter feed and Facebook page to discover all the amazingly positive and uplifting stories the team posts about South Africa and South Africans.

To end off, here is a quick Q&A with Brent Lindeque, founder of the Good Things Guy:

Who are you and what is your line of work?

My name is Brent Lindeque but they call me “the Good Things Guy” cause I created and run South Africa’s biggest only good news publication. I also have a radio show on Jacaranda on the digital arm called Jacpod.

Why do you think investing is important?

Investing is the only way you can give yourself security for the future. It’s also a great way to make your money work for you, to grow it... instead of just sitting in a “savings account”. Ultimately, investing gives you the opportunity to reach your financial goals.

Why should we invest in sharing good things?

There is so much pain and sadness in the world, and the news can break your heart. Investing in sharing good things or even reading up on good things gives you a balanced perspective. It reminds you that we live in one of the most incredible countries in the world, and shows you that good things are actually happening every day, all around us. It’s a constant reminder to be proud of South Africa. There will always be bad news, but there will always be good news, too.

If you had the opportunity to tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

SAVE! Even if it’s just a little. Make saving money a habit and use that saved money to make you more money by investing.
